What is discrimination?
Any kind of disadvantageous act or treatment is considered as discrimination. The main thing is that the person is treated worse than the rest. Both positive and negative discrimination exist. However, this is a two-edged sword. If you discriminate someone negatively, then someone else was discriminated positively.
For instance, if you're in school and there are only two free desks; in one of them your Afro-American classmate sits and the other one is empty. Choosing the empty desk because of your classmate's skin complexion means you discriminated them. Have you ever done something like this before?
If you have, have you regretted it? Have you tried to make up for it? And if not, then why?
We know that both positive and negative discrimination exist. Everyone can say an example for negative discrimination. But can you name some positive too( either one when someone is discriminated for someone else's expense)?
There are multiple types of discrimination:
•Racial, ethnic, linguicism (language)
•Gender, sexual orientation, gender-identity
•Age, reverse age
•Religious
•Disability
•Employment
But why did it develop?
There are no good answers probably. Some people say it started with American civil war, however anyone can say examples from the ancient times too. According to the former opinion, after the Civil war and the equalise of the Afro-American people, the white citizens did not have slaves anymore. Thus, they became angry and treated their new fellow citizens like filth since that was not against laws (based on the wiki answers). Yet, if we just think about the ancient times, everyone will admit that slavery existed at that time too. Moreover, what odd and discriminated is today, it might have been not back then, e.g. homosexuality in Ancient Greece.
